okay, so i pulled our collective tarot card for november and we got…
the moon reversed.
and honestly? after looking at november’s astrology, i had to laugh a little because OF COURSE we did. lol
if you’ve read my november astrology forecast, you already know we’ve got mercury and venus stationing direct, a scorpio new moon, and a gemini full moon activating some pretty significant outer-planet aspects.
there’s a whole lot happening around perception, truth, values and reconsidering the things we thought we knew.
and then here comes the moon reversed asking us to question how much of what we believe is actually true.
cute. 😂
but before we get into the reversal, let’s talk about the moon itself.
the moon: when things aren’t quite what they seem
in tarot, the moon is card XVIII of the major arcana.and it’s one of those cards that i think gets misunderstood because people tend to associate it with deception, secrets and things being hidden from us.
which, sure, can absolutely be part of its symbolism. but i think the moon is much more interesting than that.
the moon represents the subconscious, our intuition, our fears, our dreams, and the parts of ourselves that aren’t always accessible through logic.
and if you look at the traditional rider-waite-smith imagery, there’s a lot happening.
we have a moon illuminating a winding path between two towers. a dog and a wolf standing on opposite sides. and a crayfish emerging from the water.
the imagery is strange, dreamlike, and a little unsettling.
but that’s kind of the point.
because unlike the sun, which illuminates everything directly, the moon reflects light.
and reflected light can distort things.
shadows look bigger.
familiar objects take on unfamiliar shapes.
things that seemed perfectly ordinary during the day suddenly feel mysterious, maybe even threatening.
and that’s the energy of the moon.
it’s what happens when we’re navigating something without being able to see the entire picture.
and girl, if that isn’t life sometimes. lol
so what happens when the moon shows up reversed?
this is where things get interesting.
because reversals aren’t necessarily the opposite of an upright card.
sometimes they represent an internalized expression of the same energy.
sometimes they suggest a blockage, an imbalance, or a shift in how we’re experiencing the card’s themes.
and with the moon reversed, there are a couple different ways we can interpret that.
one possibility is that the fog is beginning to lift.
something that previously felt confusing starts making sense.
we begin recognizing patterns, questioning assumptions, or seeing situations from a different perspective.
but there’s another possibility.
sometimes the moon reversed suggests that we’re becoming so uncomfortable with uncertainty that we’re trying to force clarity where there isn’t any yet.
and i think that’s the part we need to talk about.
because how often do we convince ourselves we know exactly what’s happening simply because not knowing feels unbearable?
how often do we interpret someone’s behavior through the lens of our own insecurities?
how often do we mistake anxiety for intuition?
or assume that because something feels familiar, it must be true? whew.
and listen, i’m not saying we should ignore our intuition.
quite the opposite.
but i do think there’s something worth exploring in the difference between listening to our intuition and allowing our fears to speak on its behalf.
because those two things can feel remarkably similar sometimes.
intuition or fear? let’s talk about it.
i think one of the biggest misconceptions in spiritual spaces is that intuition always arrives as this perfectly clear, undeniable knowing.
like you’re just gonna wake up one morning, receive a divine download, and suddenly understand exactly what you’re supposed to do.
and sometimes, sure, insight can feel that way.
but other times?
it’s messy.
it’s confusing.
it’s uncomfortable.
and sometimes what we think is intuition is actually an old wound trying to protect us from experiencing something painful again.
think about it.
if you’ve been betrayed before, you might become hyperaware of anything that resembles dishonesty.
if you’ve experienced rejection, you might interpret someone’s distance as proof that they’re losing interest.
if you’ve spent years feeling like you have to earn love, you might struggle to believe that someone could genuinely care for you without expecting something in return.
and none of that means your feelings aren’t real.
they absolutely are.
but a feeling being real doesn’t automatically mean the story we’ve attached to it is true.
and i think that’s such an important distinction.
because sometimes our intuition is picking up on something meaningful.
and sometimes our nervous system is responding to something familiar.
the work is learning to recognize the difference without judging ourselves for either.
and honestly? that takes practice.
november’s message: you don’t need to know everything right now.
something i find really interesting about pulling the moon reversed for november is how closely it mirrors the larger astrological themes we’re navigating.
we’re coming out of mercury retrograde in scorpio, a transit associated with revisiting information, questioning assumptions, and examining what’s happening beneath the surface.
venus is also stationing direct, bringing us back to conversations about relationships, values, desires, and the things we thought we wanted.
and toward the end of the month, the gemini full moon brings attention to communication, information, and the beliefs we build around what we think we know.
so there’s this recurring theme of perception.
of questioning.
of realizing that maybe the way we’ve been interpreting something isn’t the only way to understand it.
and that’s where the moon reversed feels especially relevant.
because sometimes clarity doesn’t come from discovering something new.
sometimes it comes from recognizing that the story we’ve been telling ourselves isn’t the whole story.
and i think that can be both incredibly liberating and incredibly uncomfortable.
because if we acknowledge that our interpretation of something might be wrong, we also have to acknowledge that some of the decisions we’ve made based on that interpretation might deserve reconsideration.
and that’s not always easy.
especially when we’ve built an entire identity around believing something to be true.
but here’s the thing…
changing your mind isn’t a betrayal of who you were.
sometimes it’s evidence that you’ve learned something.
that you’ve grown.
that you’re willing to see things differently.
and isn’t that kind of the point?
the shadow of the moon reversed: when we confuse certainty with safety
okay, here’s something i’ve been thinking about.
why are we so uncomfortable with not knowing?
like genuinely.
why does uncertainty make us feel like we need to immediately figure something out, make a decision, find an explanation, or predict what happens next?
and i think part of it comes down to our relationship with control.
because when we don’t know what’s coming, we can’t prepare for every possible outcome.
and for some of us, that feels terrifying.
so we start filling in the blanks.
we make assumptions.
we replay conversations.
we search for signs.
we ask the same question in twelve different ways, hoping one of the answers will finally make us feel safe.
and listen, as someone who literally works with tarot and astrology, i think this is a conversation worth having.
because spiritual tools can be incredibly helpful for reflection, self-awareness, and finding meaning in our experiences.
but they can also become another way of trying to control uncertainty if we’re not careful.
sometimes we pull another card because we’re curious.
and sometimes we pull another card because we didn’t like the first answer.
LOL. we’ve all been there.
but the moon reversed reminds us that not every mystery needs to be solved immediately.
not every uncomfortable feeling needs an explanation.
and not every question has an answer that’s available to us right now.
sometimes the most honest thing we can say is…
i don’t know yet.
and there’s something incredibly freeing about that.
because when we stop demanding certainty, we create space for curiosity.
and curiosity allows us to consider possibilities that fear might otherwise prevent us from seeing.
working with the moon reversed this november
so what do we actually do with this energy?
personally, i wouldn’t approach the moon reversed as a warning that something terrible is hiding around the corner.
and i definitely wouldn’t use it as an excuse to become suspicious of everyone and everything around you.
because that’s kind of missing the point. lol
instead, i’d use this card as an invitation to get curious about the stories you’re telling yourself.
especially the ones that feel so familiar you’ve stopped questioning them.
when something triggers a strong emotional response, pause long enough to ask yourself what you actually know about the situation.
not what you’re afraid might be happening.
not what happened the last time you experienced something similar.
not what you’ve already convinced yourself it means.
what do you actually know?
and then consider what you might be assuming.
because sometimes there’s a pretty significant difference between the two.
i’d also encourage you to pay attention to how your body responds to uncertainty.
do you immediately feel the need to act?
to seek reassurance?
to find an answer?
to make something happen just so you don’t have to sit with the discomfort of waiting?
there’s no judgment in any of that.
but there is value in recognizing our patterns.
and finally, give yourself permission to change your interpretation of something when new information becomes available.
you don’t have to defend a belief simply because you’ve held it for a long time.
you don’t have to remain committed to a decision that no longer feels aligned.
and you certainly don’t have to pretend you understand something that you’re still figuring out.
a little reflection for the month ahead 🌙
if you’re journaling with this card, here are a few questions worth exploring:
1. what story have i been telling myself that might not be the whole truth?
2. where in my life am i confusing familiarity with intuition?
3. what am i trying to control because i’m uncomfortable with uncertainty?
4. what would change if i allowed myself to say, “i don’t know yet”?
5. where might i need more information before making a judgment or decision?
you don’t have to answer all of them.
honestly, sometimes one good question is enough to open up an entirely new conversation with yourself.
the takeaway: you can trust yourself without having all the answers.
i think that’s ultimately what the moon reversed is asking us to explore this november.
not whether we can eliminate uncertainty.
not whether we can uncover every hidden truth.
and definitely not whether we can predict exactly what’s coming next.
but whether we can learn to trust ourselves enough to navigate life without needing to know how every single thing is going to unfold.
because maybe trusting yourself isn’t about always knowing the right answer.
maybe it’s about believing that even when you don’t know, you’re capable of figuring things out.
that you can ask questions.
that you can change your mind.
that you can recognize when fear is influencing your perception.
and that you can make decisions based on what you know today without needing to guarantee what happens tomorrow.
and maybe, just maybe, that’s what real clarity looks like.
not the absence of uncertainty.
but the ability to sit with it without allowing it to dictate every decision we make.
so if november finds you questioning something you once felt certain about, don’t automatically assume you’ve lost your way.
maybe you’re simply seeing things from a different perspective.
maybe the fog is beginning to lift.
or maybe you’re learning that you don’t need to see the entire path to take the next step.
either way, be gentle with yourself.
you don’t need to have all the answers to trust yourself.
happy november, my loves. 🌙
